The horrific bus accident occurred as a result of a collision with a truck on Friday morning. According to various media reports, 8 were killed and 43 were injured. The 51 passengers were travelling from Makkah to Madinah. This is very sad news because all the pilgrims who died were foreigners. Of these, 7 belonged to Egypt and 1 belonged to Sudan. Umrah pilgrims killed in a traffic accident in Ramadan is the second incident in April.
This tragic incident has made everyone’s eyes water, whether one belongs to the deceased or not. According to the investigation report, the accident took place due to high speed.
The Director-general of the Red Crescent say about the bus accident
Ahmed al-Zahrani, director-general of the Medina Red Crescent, told Gulf News. We received an emergency call from a location near the town of Al Yutamah about the bus accident. This town is at a distance of 90 km from Madinah city. The office received the call at 6:14 a.m. Friday. Al-Hijrah Highway is a very busy road as it is the only road from Medina to Mecca. The route of this road is the same as that used by the Prophet (peace be upon him) and his companion Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) during the migration.
He added that 3 were seriously injured and 10 suffered minor injuries. Five of the injured were taken to local hospitals, where emergency teams were treating them on the spot. And Ahmed al-Zahrani said the remaining passengers were stable. Rescue teams arrived at that place10 minutes after the accident was reported.
Remember: On April 16, another bus accident happened. One passenger was killed and several others were injured in the accident. And this accident happened because of the bus overturning.
140 kph (kilometres per hour) is a “fast and furious” speed for a passenger bus as such speed can cause the bus to overturn.
The Saudi government has lifted many of the restrictions that prevented a Muslim from performing Umrah. But health insurance is not included.
The reaction of people to know about accident:
Many families were sad to know “Umrah pilgrims killed in Ramadan“. I was one of those who had relatives there. My uncle has been there for the last 15 days of Ramadan 2022. But when they told me I was in my booked private car, I was relieved. The dead and wounded were on their way from Mecca to Medina. All of them must have performed Umrah and they were going to offer prayers and visit the Prophet’s Mosque.
My uncle booked a cheap 15 days Ramadan Umrah package from the UK. He received a 5 stars package because her age and health did not allow him to travel by bus. He had already obtained private transport to travel there.
Nowadays, you don’t have to argue with a taxi driver or a hotel receptionist about expensive transport or hotel fares. Because various mobile apps and websites can provide easy access to private transport and hotels for every foreigner. Many people have been badly affected by this accident and I am still saddened by this tragedy.
Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “Muslims are like one body. If one part of the body is in pain, then the whole body feels this pain“.
Arab News published the identity of the dead. According to eyewitnesses, the dead were Egyptians and Sudanese.
